Goole Civic Society's Latest Blue Plaque Launch

Goole Civic Society are delighted to announce the launch of our latest Blue Plaque dedicated to Sir Bertram Fox Hayes Captain of the SS Olympic. Meet Sunday 16th June, 1.30pm at Old Goole Club, and then The Gables, Swinefleet Road, DN14 5UN to launch the Blue Plaque at 2.00pm

Goole Civic Society are delighted to announce the launch of our latest Blue Plaque. The plaque will be dedicated to Sir Bertram Fox Hayes, who lived in Old Goole between 1870 and 1880.

Sir Bertram was educated in the town and started his career at Goole Steam Shipping Company, before sailing around the world and achieving the rank of Commander for the White Star Line. Sir Bertram was captain of the SS Olympic during WW1, and served on the Board of Inquiry for its sister ship the Titanic.

During the afternoon of Sunday the 16th June the Society will be hosting a launch event at Old Goole Club.  All members welcome to attend the event, where a short presentation will be given about Sir Bertram, but are asked to RSVP before the 13th June via goolecivicsociety@gmail.com or 07867 547932
